We Are Storybook Readers!

This week we continue to become better at reading storybooks. I have modeled reading so many storybooks and now students are reading more and more of the exact words to their partners. Students are looking to find the exact words on the page too. It is so exciting to see them read these books to their partners, even when they can't read yet.

Rest time! All students went book shopping on Monday and had new books to practice reading this week. We look at the pictures and the words, using all our strategies to make us good storybook readers.

During writing this week, we continued writing small moments and working on writing words and sentences. Students are doing an amazing job building stamina and coming up with ideas. All writing will be sent home at the end of each unit. Some KG students read their stories to the class in the author's chair. We gave compliments to one another on what each person did well.

Center Time! We worked on building words, reading our storybooks, learning letter sounds and sight words, and even painted rainbows to round out color week!

Brain Break! Practice counting to 100 and dancing to Go Noodle!

In math this week, we worked on 7 and 8! We played many games on the SmartBoard and with our partners. We counted far beyond 8 too! KG students have a strong number foundation already. We start math with calendar every day, making sure we con growing our confidence in months, days and year!

During snack time this week, we watched some classic storybooks including The Three Billy Goats Gruff, The Gingerbread Man, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Corduroy

Students have lots of choices this week during choice time. This week, they were allowed to play OSMO (making words) and other reading apps. Some played legos and some played together with kinetic sand.

Today, the kindergarteners had a special time meeting with the fourth grade students from Mrs. Harrison's class to celebrate their writing so far. The fourth graders sat and looked through their writing pieces and wrote compliments for them and created a few goals. The fourth graders were so great with our class and we are do thankful for them to come help us become better writers.
