The Life of KG Students

This morning we had our Second Steps lesson on being a listener. We talked all about how it takes more than just your ears to listen. You need your eyes and brain too! We listened to a song about staying focused and being assertive and asking for help. Also, ask your child about Puppy and Snail who help me teach the lessons. We played a listening game with them today.

In reading this week, we are reading old classic stories and working on becoming storybook readers. We are looking at the pictures, remembering the story how the teacher read it, and trying to read it ourselves. We are making sure that our storytelling matches the pictures. Students have read The Three Billy Goats Gruff and Caps For Sale

In math this week, we are working on our foundational numbers 1-10, as well as continuing to work on the vocabulary terms same and different. Students had so much fun doing the picture searches, finding the differences between the two.

During Writers Workshop, students are working on writing about a small moment in time. We are working on staying motivated and not giving up, even when its hard to write a word or draw a picture. We are building up our writing stamina. I have modeled writing several stories and we've talked about how words create a sentence. Students are really working on stretching out words and writing their own sentences. I'm amazed at how quickly they are progressing already!

In centers this week, we are working on becoming independent workers during this time. Students love rotating around the room to the different centers that focus on different skills.
