Week 19

Read the OB News!

I hope everyone is enjoying the holidays together. I am so blessed to be a part of such wonderful families in KG this year. Thank you for being so supportive of your child this year in kindergarten. I truly love coming to school each day to be with them.

Safe Touch Class: We learned that no one should ever be touching us in areas that swim suits cover, unless its a doctor or parent helping us. A coloring book came home for you to see more of what the students learned in the 30 minute session.

Mrs. Brown came in and helped us learn more about the coding app, ScratchJr. The students are starting to catch on and create a code. It is something you can download at home.

We lost our Gingerbread Man after reading some of the books this week. He escaped and we made signs to let the school know and help us find him. On Friday, the coaches found him in the gym. He tried to escape again but Coach Prange saved the day catching him and returning him to KG!

In social studies, we learned about China and England. We talked a little about the land and culture and the big holidays such as Chinese New Year and the Queen's birthday. We used Google Earth to travel around the globe and see where these countries are in comparison to where we live.

We watched The Polar Express with our 4th grade buddies and had "hot" chocolate too. Thank you to the Tucker family for providing that for us!

On Friday morning, we enjoyed the Show Choir's performance of holiday carols. It was beautiful and interactive for the little ones to join in.

Thank you to the moms that came and helped at our party. It was great fun and I hope everyone received their picture frame for the holidays!

Week 18

Read the OB Newsletter!

We earned another 100 SOAR tickets! I haven't told our class yet, but our reward will be going to watch The Polar Express [G] with our 4th grade buddies on Thursday. We will have chocolate milk in place of hot chocolate. If you would prefer your child not to see this movie, please let me know and they can partake in another activity.

In our Second Steps lesson, we talked about not feeling in control. We looked at a picture of a girl named Lucy who was lacking body control and running in to all our friends. Her teacher gave her some strategies to keep her mind busy such as counting her classmates, counting how many things she could find that are red, or counting up to 20 while waiting in line. We talked about being in control and what that looks like and how it can be hard sometimes. We also practiced putting our hands on our stomachs and belly breathing again and stating how we are feeling.

In math, we explored 2D and 3D shapes more, recognizing their properties. Students sorted, made patterns, created pictures with the shapes this week.

In reading, students worked on worting words into word families. Students also read in small groups with their peers.

In social studies, we learned about the land/water and culture of Honduras and Egypt. Next week we look at China and London. These activities are to understand the different between culture and geography of the land. Also, to start talking about continents and countries and for students to get a sense of where they live and world around them. We watched video clips about Children's Day celebrated in Honduras and the Egyptian pyramids.

Mrs. Lombardo, our part time gifted teacher, came in and did our last whole group enrichment activity.
