Be Healthy

This week during our Second Steps lesson we discussed the top picture. The boy wanted to play with the big dinosaurs the girl was playing with. We learned about fair ways to play: sharing, trading, and taking turns. I told students that during choice time I would be looking for these fair ways to playing.

We read I Can Handle It! today in our morning meeting. It was all about how we encounter things in life that aren't easy and make us feel all different ways, but we can handle it!

Now that we have become avid readers, we are ready to have reading playdates. I talked about this is similar to adults having book clubs. Students are in groups of 3 or 4 and today we learned about playing school. One person in the group is the teacher and read aloud their book to the students. The teacher can also play shared reading where they ask the students to repeat the sentences. Next week we will learn about the games we can play with our book and also learn about playing pretend.

Earlier this week we had outside recess for our SOAR reward! It was refreshing to play outside and get some sunshine!

Theme: Our theme this week was nutrition. We talked about how we can be healthy. We watched videos and read stories about being healthy. We learned about the food pyramid and the food groups.

On Wednesday, we had a Black History Assembly. We had visitors who came and taught us about Louis Armstrong. TJ leads a St. Louis Jazz Orchestra and played many instruments for us that Louis Armstrong played. The kids enjoyed it! We also honored our amazing custodian, Mr. Woolfolk, at the assembly for all his hard work and dedication the past 20+ years.

Today, in your child's folder was the sign up for the spring after school activities. If you are interested, please send in the form with payment next week. There also is a form if you want to sign your child up for the talent show at the Spring Fling in May.

Students will be putting on a small performance in music class this coming week on Tuesday from 12:20-12:50. If you can get away, come watch KG in music class!
