Week 7

Second Steps: This week our lesson was about feelings. We learned that happy feelings make us comfortable. We talked about what a person's body looks like when they are happy or content. We also looked at sad feelings and talked about how these feelings make us feel uncomfortable. The idea is for students to understand and share the feelings of another.

Today, we read My Mouth is a Volcano. We talked about how sometimes it is hard to be patient when you want to talk. However, we discussed the importance of waiting and not talking while someone else is talking. The strategy the book taught us is to blow our words out our nose. When it is our turn, it will be there waiting for us to breathe in and speak.

Brain Break!

Math: Students worked on one-to-one correspondence this week. We also worked on the concept of one more, one less.

Ability Awareness Week: This week students participated in two hours of ability awareness this week. Students went to four stations: Down syndrome awareness (Skyped with special needs class in Louisiana), Sensory Needs, Therapy Dogs, Fears/Phobias.

Show and Tell: Students earned another 100 SOAR tickets and chose Show and Tell. Students shared their toy in morning meeting and then got to play with their toys at choice time. We talked about the polite way to ask a friend if you can play with their toy.

Brain Break! Jack Hartman helps us stretch and count.

Reading: This week we practiced using our pointer power and picture power! We also learned about our SOUND POWER, looking closely at the beginning letters of words to help us solve the word. Students practiced reading books in their book box which are on their reading level. Students also use partner power

Writing: We continue to write small moment narratives. We looked at this checklist below this week to finalize our favorite writing pieces. Some students had a chance to share their writing with their classmates.

Field Day was a blast! It was warm, but very fun. Students rotated through 10 stations with different activities that revolved around empathy. I wasn't able to get many picture of our class as I was with my family. I will post some pictures on Monday from the afternoon.
