Olivette Firefighters Teach Us All About Fire Safety

It is Fire Safety Week! The Olivette Fire Department came to tell us about what to do if there is a fire in our homes. We learned about getting down low, feeling the door with the back of our hand to see if it is hot, yelling "fire" to alert everyone, and not to be scared of the firemen. We also learned to just worry about getting ourselves out the house (not our pets), making sure we know what to do if hear smoke detectors and yelling "help" to let the firemen know where we are. We practiced crawling down low to the floor. We also got a tour of the big red firetruck and learned about the tools on the truck. The firemen even joined the kids at lunch! Be sure to discuss a fire safety plan with your family. Review what to do if there was a fire and have a family evacuation plan and place to join at to make sure everyone is safe.
