Shared Reading and Interactive Writing

Each day during our reading block, we have shared reading and interactive writing. During shared reading, we read the same short passage/poem that focuses on one sight word each day. At the beginning of the week I lead the shared reading and by Wednesday the students start to read it more independently. On Thursday and Friday, the students lead the reading more fluently. We work on using our pointer power and placing one dot under each word as we read.

During interactive writing, we write one sentence together on the Smartboard. We write a sentence with our two sight words for the week and focus on capital letter at the beginning, lowercase throughout the rest and punctuation at the end. We also work on stretching out words and hearing all the sounds in the words. Students come up to the board to help write the words and other students pick their favorite pretend pen colors and we write it in the air or in the carpet in front of us.
