Our KG students are growing their reading muscles! This week we began to talk about avid readers. We looked at this chart to learn about what makes an avid reader. Students have been practicing looking like avid readers and telling me how much they LOVE reading! We are trying to instill a love for reading and grow their confidence by giving them appropriate level books that are just right for each child and offer a variety of books they get to choose from that interest them!

I continue to give each student more challenging books during their small group time with me. They keep these in their book box and have the opportunity to read them twice a day. They use whisper phones so they can hear themselves read quietly.

While I work with students in small groups and on various skills depending on student needs, other students are working in their literacy centers being exposed to all types of text and literacy games.

During phonics this week, we learned that not only does every word have a vowel, every syllable has a vowel! We practiced using our syllables to break apart and spell big words.

In math this week, we have been sorting items based on one or two attributes.

Every day we practice counting backwards from 20 and skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s during calendar time.

In writing, we wrapped up our How To story unit and shared them with our 4H buddies today. The kids absolutely adore each other and love their time together. Ask your child about their time with their buddy today.

We went outside and played for choice time when it was warm enough! The kids need some fresh air and time to run around.

The students have been so fortunate to do some amazing things in PE this week testing their coordination and physical strength. Shout out to our amazing coaches that keep our kids moving creatively each day! If you don't follow them on Instagram, you should! @o.b.pe

Conference sign up went home, so please sign up for a time slot if you haven't already!

Happy Weekend!
