Living and Non-Living Things

We read these two books this week for our social skills lesson. The first book is learning to turn bossy into flexible and assertive. The second book is all about how it is ok to worry, but how we are in charge of our thinking and distracting ourselves.

We continue to have many class meetings to discuss classroom peer challenges as well as talk about KG class goals. A big goal has been controlled bodies and voices during transitions in hallways as well as avoiding peer conflict and thinking about how our words could affect others before saying them.

We finished our All About books last week and walked around the classroom "museum" style to read one another's finished pieces. Aren't you amazed in your child's writing? Students will bring home their end of year binder with pieces from throughout the year and you will be amazed to see the progression!!

Last week we did an author study on Mo Willems. The students learned about the author and we read SO many of his books. They are always a huge hit. We discussed how the author does things with his words including size of text and using different fonts to emphasize words.

We made pigeons from Mo Willems series.

Last week in math we talked and discovered more about weight. We used scales to measure how many cubes things weighed and also compared items to see which weighed more. Then we talked briefly about capacity and events in time (which takes more/less time.) The last unit is money and today we learned about our four main coins we use in our country.

We had another lesson with Mrs. G from Junior Achievement. We learned about needs and wants, and goods and services. The students really enjoy her lessons. It is a great introduction to economics.

Our theme this week was living and non living things. We talked about characteristics that make things living or non living. We sorted items into two columns. We have been observing our caterpillars and are now anxiously awaiting their arrival out of their cocoons.

Happy Mother's Day to all the amazing KG moms. The students were so excited to make their presents for you :) Enjoy this weekend with your families!

Outside choice time!

Tracing on the SmartBoard has become a big hit :)
