Let it Snow!

Second Steps/Social Skills: This week in our Second Steps lesson, we talked about not getting what we want and being ok with it. In the photo the students looked at, the teacher asked two students to help with a project and one student was upset he didn't get picked. We talked about how we could problem solve this situation and help us calm down. We also talked about expressing our thoughts and telling the teacher that he would like the opportunity to help another time.

We read I Just Don't Like the Sound of NO! The character RJ would always get frustrated when his parents and teacher told him No! He joined the Say Yes to No club and learned how to accept hearing no and asking questions once he was calm. We talked a lot about how sometimes Mrs. McGee is going to say no and we have to be ok with that. Then we talked about home and how if our parent(s) say no, we have to accept and understand their reasoning.

Class Meeting: This week during our class meeting we discussed more goals for KG. Many students decided that we need to all work on being the boss of our own selves, and not telling others what to do. We also talked about following hallway expectations, making sure we are staying on the blue lines and being at a voice volume 0.

Math: This week our focus was counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s. We practiced putting counters in groups and making tally marks on whiteboards in groups of five. We also used a 100s chart to circle the numbers to practice skip counting. Our morning work this week was writing the numbers skip counting by 2s and 5s each morning. Ask your child to skip count for practice!

Writing/COCA Partnership: This week we were lucky to have Mrs. McWilliams with COCA come do a partnership with us. She comes to do a lesson three times with the kids to enhance our curriculum with the arts. She incorporates music, movement and art and I observe to get excellent ideas! The students absolutely loved her time with us. She taught us a song about writing how to books, then we did pantomime movements acting out how to stories. Students have written some amazing How To stories, teaching others how to do something they are experts at.

PE: This week I heard noises out my window when students were at PE! I looked out and they were collecting leaves in buckets to make big leaf piles. What great exercise while having fun! Check out OBPE on Instagram if you're not already. It's so fun to see what they kids are up to outside!

Theme: This week we talked about germs. We read a magazine, watched some videos, read books and did an experiment. Some students washed their hands, some students used hand sanitizer and some didn't wash their hands. We all rubbed our hands on bread and are waiting to see what happens! We talked a lot about the importance of washing hands

Choice Time: Students continue to have choice time at the end of each day. They love to build, color and create!
