Let the Learning Begin!

We've been talking about how we are already readers! We can read environmental print all around us. We examined logos and were able to identify them already using our brains. We've started talking about storybooks vs. information books. We have been looking through information books and trying to figure out what the author is teaching us about.

This is our friend, Puppy. He sits with us during our social skills lessons. On Monday, we learned our listening rules: eyes are watching, ears are listening, mouth is quiet, body is still. Ask your child to show you the hand motions.

Here is our partner chart. We often work in partners at different spots around the classroom. We have been practicing independent reading this week with our partner as well as playing math games.

Here are our classroom expectations. Students are being recognized for following the these expectations and being rewarded with verbal praise and our school wide SOAR tickets. These tickets can earn us a class incentive, such as pajama day or going outside for extra playtime.

Each week, we will have two sight words. Here are our two for the week. We have read poems with these words, looked for these words in our books, and practiced writing them!

Each day we do calendar. We talk about various math skills within it. We are identifying the month, day, week and year along with looking at the weather and day of school. As students learn more, we add skills to correlate with our math curriculum.

At the end of the day, we have choice time! We are practicing taking turns, sharing, playing nice together, and using kind words.

This week, we started our phonics program. We are examining letters and letter sounds through play with our names. We sorted words that start with /m/ and words that do not start with /m/.

We have brain breaks today often to get our bodies moving! This song today was all about letter sounds.
