Second Steps: This week our lesson was about learning to apologize even if it was an accident. We looked at this picture and then role played different scenarios and practiced saying "I'm sorry. It was an accident. Are you ok?"
STEM Activity: We had a special visitor, Mrs. Perry, come in this week and do a STEM activity. Students had to design a fence with foam and wooden blocks that would keep the hexbug (https://www.hexbug.com/nano) inside. They worked with a team and had to keep redesigning together to strengthen their design, just like engineers. They had an absolute blast with the activity and we hope to do it again soon!
Math: We continue this week to learn more about place value. We built numbers up to 100 with tens and ones sticks. Later in the week, we talked about placing numbers on the correct place on a number line and touched on ordering numbers from least to greatest. We also took the NWEA assessment on our iPads. Every student at OB takes this assessment to look for student growth. The scores will be reported to you via mail, however I'm unsure of the date.
Reading: This week in our reading lessons we learned about looking for snap words in disguise because they have inflected endings. We talked more about endings on words that change the meaning slightly. Students practiced looking for these words in their own books. I continue to conference wth students as they read. Students continue to be ready for more challenging books. We book shop every week and get new books to read!
Writing: This week we had our last lesson with Mrs. McWilliams from COCA. Students worked with a partner to pantomime their stories to one another to make sure their steps were accurate. Students tried to add a hint/tip or warning to their stories to enhance the steps. Many students shared their stories with the class on our document camera.
