Week 1 Complete!

The first week is over and it was a great one! Our class is already on their way to becoming good friends and we have learned so many routines and OB and KG expectations.

We welcomed Gowtham today to KG!

We have learned many fun activities to practice our fine motor skills as well as working together!

Today we started our classroom portfolios. We will be putting in pictures throughout the year as well as our work to watch how much we grow!

In math this week, we talked about the word "same" and how it means alike. We played a game called match me, where one student had to place counters down and the other person had to match them to make the same. We also counted to 100 kinesthetically while exercising!

We read many stories this week to help us learn important lessons. Today, we read My Princess Boy and Heather Has Two Mommies. We talked about how we don't judge anyone because they like something we don't. Its ok for boys to like pink and girls to like legos!

After we read this story, we drew pictures of our families and tried to label the people who live in our homes. We discussed how families are made of different people, some people have two moms, some have one dad, some have a mom and a dad, some families have grandmas and grandpas that live in the home! The book stressed the importance of the only thing that matters is that the people in your family love one another. The students did an amazing job with their illustrations. We are working on using details and using multiple colors while drawing.

At the end of the day we have choice time! Students choose an activity around the classroom and play together. We work on using nice words, sharing, problem solving and more important social skills.

Have a wonderful weekend and I hope our KG friends can get some rest and be ready for next week!

First Week of School

We are off to an amazing start and we have a class full of the kindest students. We have read many stories this week, including some pictured below, to help us learn about school expectations and to learn about one another appreciating our differences. We have made several charts and done many get to know you activities. It is a long first week and students are showing signs of tiredness, but seem to be enjoying each others company and making new friends quickly.

Happy 1st Day of KG!

We had an amazing first day of school! We learned so many routines in our own classroom as well as other places around the school. Students went to library today, so be sure to ask them about meeting our librarian, Mrs. Kelly!

Here are some first day photos.
